After riding on a plane for 8+ hours, I finally was greeted at the Krakow airport with snow flurries and -8C temperatures. Its freezing, and being the highly productive thinker that I am, I packed only a mere wind blocking rain-type jacket (should’ve listened to mom!). It’s going to be a long winter, or I’ll have to suck it up and buy something warmer.
My first meal in Krakow was at a beautiful traditional restaurant, Hawleka. Our waitress is a student at the university (studying chemistry..). She was nice enough to let my dad know that he was tipping outrageously, even in terms of zlotkys. I had a delicious Polish traditional dish, Krakow Sour Rye Soup with an egg and white kielbasa. The soup wasn’t sour, but actually kind of salty and reminded me of pureed veggies. The egg was hard boiled and sitting on a slather of horseradish-mustard-ginger spread. I didn’t really take to the slather. The kielbasa was perfect, except I think it may have been under cooked, as the middle was a squishy and pink. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
